HOW DOES MICRO-NEEDLING WORK?

The micro-needling pen oscillates up and down to create fine puncture points (micro-injuries). The body reacts by producing additional collagen and elastin. Over time, micro-needling helps rejuvenate the skin, leaving it firm and more youthful in appearance.​ Studies have shown micro-needling can increase localized skin collagen production by up to 400%.

Considered safe for all skin types, the use of micro-needling presents little risk of hyperpigmentation for individuals with darker skin. Moreover, this procedure involves little to no downtime and minimal recovery time. You’ll experience minor redness and irritation for a few days after the procedure.

According to a 2009 study, almost 100 percent of micro-needling participants reported a noticeable difference and vast improvement in the appearance of their acne scars after a treatment.

HOW LONG DOES A TYPICAL TREATMENT TAKE?

​

Depending on the size of the treatment area and the condition being treated, your micro-needling session can last approximately 30-60 minutes. Patients should plan to be at the clinique for a more or less   an hour.

WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE?*

Many patients are surprised to learn the immediate benefits of micro-needling. You’ll leave the clinique with a softer feeling and tighter looking skin. An optimal outcome from a micro-needling session takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks to become evident.

​

Micro-needling is considered a very long-lasting treatment. Newly produced collagen can last upwards of a year or more. However, many patients need a series of treatments to get the initial results they want. Mild sessions can be repeated every 2-4 weeks while deeper treatments should be done 4-6 weeks apart to allow proper healing.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

​

Recovery with micro-needling depends on the depth of treatment. Mild sessions may have absolutely no downtime allowing patients to quickly get back to their typical day-to-day activities. More aggressive sessions may require up to 24-72 hours for recovery. Side effects can include redness, swelling, tenderness, and/or pinpoint bleeding. Any discomfort can be easily managed with ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication.

It should be noted that your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so sunscreen is a must.

To maintain the results of your treatment, you’ll need multiple sessions and perhaps other complementing treatments. Our doctor will advise you on the best plan of action based on your individual goal

WILL IT HURT?

​

Many patients find micro-needling  to feel like a little buzzing over their skin with perhaps a bit of sensitivity on the upper lip or forehead. Most, however leave feeling like they had the best facial ever. Afterwards, patients may experience red skin and slight swelling. We typically use a prescription-strength topical agent prior to treatment to ensure your optimal comfort throughout.
