ABOUT PLASMA PEN TREATMENTS?
As we age, our skin's natural production of collagen molecules slows down dramatically - leading to a deflationary effect on the surface of our skin. This causes us to get fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin as we get older. As the scaffolding of our skin deteriorates, it loses its natural laxity and texture, as the elastin that underpins our skin's elasticity begins to wear out.
Plasma Pen fibroblasting treatments can support this loss in structure with our range of non-invasive, soft-surgical face lifts and skin tightening treatments. Our non-invasive, soft-surgical skin tightening treatment method stimulates the fibroblasts in the skin to significantly tighten, repair and eliminate wrinkles.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THE PLASMA PEN TREATMENTS?
For full Plasma Pen treatments, it is recommended by the manufacturer that only skin types of 1 to 3 on the Fitzpatrick scale undergoes the procedure. Treating anyone with darker skin than this with full treatment is putting patients at a high risk of pigmentation.
HOW DOES THE PLASMA PEN WORK?
Simply put, the Plasma Pen device converts electrical energy into electrostatic energy to create nitrogen plasma gas. Through a combination of highly trained Plasma Pen technician intuition, and the setting selection on the Plasma Pen device, our aesthetics doctor can change their plasma administration technique to suit each individual client's needs and skin type.
WHAT RESULTS MAY YOU EXPECT? *
The innovative fibroblasting treatments with the Plasma Pen is known to deliver reduced downtimes, higher velocity recovery and fantastic results. Here is what to expect from each stage of the healing journey following a soft-surgery fibroblasting Plasma Pen procedure:
First 7 days
In the first 7 days, tiny carbon crusts appear on the skin as a sign of the new epithelial tissue. These carbon crusts serve as a natural and protective biological dressing, that will flake off naturally as the newly formed and rejuvenated skin appears underneath. The fibroblasting treatment with a Plasma Pen creates Type 111 collagen that works to minimize the effect and appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and skin aging.
Weeks 2 to 12
The comprehensive healing response is characterized by the strengthening, plumping, inflation and lifting of the skin. We start to see the reversal of premature degeneration and a stimulation of white blood cells, filling in any gaps created through micro-trauma.
Month 4 to 36
Approximately 3 to 4 months’ post treatment, the skin starts to form new blood vessels and release growth factors. These growth factors include “cytokines” – small proteins that help modulate our immune response, our cell ageing and the repair and growth of new cells.
HOW LONG DOES A TYPICAL PROCEDURE TAKE?
Depending on the treatment, the typical procedure might take an approximate 30 to 45 minutes.
TREATMENT AREAS, TO NAME A FEW, INCLUDE:
As part of the ageing process, our skin loses its elasticity and the muscles start to slacken. A Plasma Pen Neck Lift can tighten and lift the skin of the neck, without the need for painful invasive surgery.
The skin around the upper and lower eyelids can begin to droop and sag with age. Precision application of plasma energy helps to reactivate the fibroblasts and boost new collagen production in this area, for a smoother appearance.
Crows feet (Eyes)
Crows feet can greatly affect confidence and can make the face appear older than it really is. Careful application of plasma energy can eradicate deep furrows and fine lines around the eyes, for a more youthful look.
The skin around the jawline can become soft and lose definition over time. Plasma Pen treatment helps to kick start the collagen production process and create a firmer look around the jaw.
A careful application of plasma energy over the whole of the face will help to smooth out fine lines, resurface the skin, brighten the complexion and reduce pigmentation problems.
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
A very small number of patients ever experience complications of any kind with Plasma Pen treatments. However, risks or complications may be caused by existing medical issues, or a failure to comply with the Plasma fibroblast aftercare recommendation plan. This device is frequently praised for delivering compressed downtimes, higher velocity recovery, and superior results with minimal risks.
During the healing process, it is important to remember not to pick or scratch at the Plasma crusts. We recommend using topical aloe vera up to three times per day after week 2 to provide relief from itching, whilst also speeding up the healing process
Plasma aftercare will be discussed with you before and after your treatment.
WHO SHOULD NOT USE THE PLASMA PEN TREATMENTS:
The following patients will unfortunately not qualify for the Plasma Pen procedure:
Patients who are pregnant.
Who use Warfarin or retinoids.
Cancer – patients undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy - we must allow leave at least 5 weeks either side of treatment.
Contact Lenses - Contact lenses must be removed before any treatment close to the eye and must not be used for up to 72 hours post-procedure. We cannot begin to stress the importance of ensuring contact lenses are removed pre-treatment.
Epilepsy - If it has been two years since your last seizure, we may proceed with the Plasma Pen treatment. Plasma Pen treatment may trigger an epileptic event, and Ola Bella will request that you complete a consent form as well as have someone bring with you at your appointment.
Haemophilia - This is contraindicated for Plasma Pen treatment and not safe for haemophiliac patients.
Herpes – this is a viral infection commonly referred to as a cold sore or fever blister – usually around the mouth. Ola Bella suggests that you ask your physician for an antiviral treatment, at least 5 days before treatment and 5 days after treatment.
Injections / Fillers - It is recommended to wait at least 21 days after the filler has been administered before doing a Plasma Pen treatment. It is also common for lips with large amounts of filler or fat in them to have slower or compromised healing. In some cases, the lips can become infected more easily during the healing process after working close to the lip.
Lupus - Due to the inflammation and swelling associated with lupus, the Plasma Pen treatment cannot be safely performed.
Vitiligo - Unfortunately, clients with vitiligo are not good candidates for Plasma Pen due to the risk associated with outbreaks in other areas of the body or face.
Patients with the following symptoms are considered a very high risk for the Plasma Pen procedure:
HIV / AIDS / Hepatitis - Plasma Pen is not safe for individuals with HIV / AIDS / Hepatitis or any other immune disorders.
Diabetes - Diabetics have a tendency to both bleed and bruise easily, so you may find it more uncomfortable and the healing process may be lengthier. Some clients may need to wait longer between treatments.
Thyroid - If you suffer from underactive thyroid, you may find that your healing time is slightly longer than typical.
Trichotillomania - If you are prone to picking, the Plasma Pen treatment may not be appropriate due to the increased risk of infection and hyperpigmentation associated with additional trauma to the skin caused by trichotillomania.
